Have you ever face a ransomware attack on your PC? I did. Believe me, it’s really hard to face that situation. Don’t worry, here on this page I’m gonna show you how to activate Windows 10 ransomware protection on your PC.

By the end of reading this article, you will get to know

  • What is a Ransomware attack?
  • How it affects your PC with examples? and
  • How to protect from it?

I lost all the data on my computer when my PC was under a ransomware attack. There are many people like me. So windows decide to protect their users’ data and bring this feature called Ransomware protection.

Before going to know how to activate it on your PC, you need to know what it is.

Ransomware meaning:

Ransomware virus is a computer virus that was found in Russia in 2005. It is the most dangerous virus that not only locks but also encrypts your files. To get back your files, you need to pay something around $300. However, it is not sure to get back your files even you pay them.

A group of viruses or malware networks can see various names from PC to PC. Though they have different names, their concept is the same. To get complete information about this, go to the Wiki page.

Mostly, there are two common ways to enter this malware into your computer.

1. Spam E-mail

I’m sure you must have spam emails in your Gmail account except if you are using a Google Workspace Business account. Here you can find how to create a Gmail account.

Remember, any account on the internet protected with a password. Sometimes, it is up to you to set a password or not but not in all cases. I suggest you set a strong password to your account so that hackers or malware wouldn’t enter to your account.

Find the importance of a password and how to set a strong password to your account.

If you get unknown emails, Google will automatically suggest that you throw them into the spam section.

At the bottom of an email, you can see unsubscribe option. You can unsubscribe from any email at any time. So you’ll not get any emails from them to your inbox.

By the way, subscribe to our mail list to get content like this to your mail inbox.

2. Browsing

When you are browsing on the internet, spam web pages will lead you to get into a trap.

In such cases, the virus will enter your PC. By using antivirus protection, you can keep your PC safe and sound.

These are my recommended antivirus software on Amazon:

Ransomware attack :

Usually, we are browsing every day. The type of browsing may be different, but browsing is common. You need to enter different websites to get the required information.

When we enter a less secure website, the chances are very high to get hacked. If you click on something and it will redirect you to the spam web page. There is no problem clicking on Google ads, but not all ads you see on the internet made by Google.

Through that unwanted tab, the hackers will get to know your IP address. The virus directly enters your windows drive (Local Disk C) in common and commands the entire PC.

You cannot find the virus until the hacker encrypts all your data. When the computer shutdown, the virus will spread to all the file locations on your PC.

After that, you could not access your files. Entire computer files lost your control. The hacker placed a text file for you. In the text file, you’ll find a message “We encrypted all your data. If you want to get back your data, you must download our software, and there we will provide our decryption code.”

The hacker provides two or three decrypted demo files in order to prove that they are accessing your data.

You need to pay for the software that they recommend for decryption. In that situation, you have two options, whether you buy their software or give up your system files. If you buy their software, you have no guarantee to get back your files. So, that’s the risky thing to take.

When you choose the second option, you need to lose hope in all your system files. If you don’t have any important files or have a backup of important files, then this is the better option for you to choose.

Protection –

To solve this problem (either lost money or data), Windows will bring the best feature to save your data from risk – Windows 10 Ransomware Protection.

This feature is available in Windows 10 Operating System only. If you are using Windows 8 or before versions, upgrade your software to Windows 10 to use this feature.

There is another way to protect your identity from hacker is by using a Virtual Private Network.

Efficient PC protection

Below the controlled folder access, you can see there are 3 options.

  1. Block history
  2. Protected folders
  3. Allow an app through Controlled folder access

You can protect your PC like a pro with these features. Let’s see what they are…

1. Block history

All the blocked files by the Windows security and by yourself manually are shown here. You can either unblock them or add more files to the block list.

2. Protected folders

This is my favorite feature in the entire OS. Guess why? You can add a specific folder on your PC to this protected folder list. These folders are completely protected from malware attacks.

Select the folders that are important to you
Select the folders that are important to you

For example, Academics and GATE folders are important to me. I don’t want to lose the data in them and also don’t want unwanted changes to them. So, I add the folders to the protected folder’s list.

3. Allow an app through Controlled folder access

I think the sub-heading says most about it. If you want to use an app and protect it after usage, then this feature will help.

By this, you can use software applications efficiently without being affected by ransomware or any other virus.

Conclusion :

If you are using antivirus software like Avast, Bitdefender, etc., you don’t need to worry about malware threats. But this ransomware protection in Windows 10 is a free feature.

So, I recommend you to activate this feature now to protect data on your PC from Ransomware attack.

Not only these, there are many best features in Windows 10 OS which makes your work smart.
