Windows Protection: This simple work protects your data in the online world

Hi there! I’m going to tell you something informative and useful content today. ‘Ransomware virus’, Have you ever heard this name? I think most of you people know somewhat about it. Even you know nothing about it, no problem. I’m here to explain to you clearly.

I have experienced this malware attack and lost all my data. And now, I know how to protect my PC efficiently. While coming to the point, ransomware protection is one of the best features they provide on windows 10. Before going to know how to activate that? let’s see what it is? And how it affects?

By the end of reading this article, you must know how to activate ransomware protection in your PC.

What is the ransomware virus?

Ransomware virus is a computer virus that was found in Russia in 2005. It is the most dangerous virus that not only locks but also encrypts our files. To get back our files, we need to pay something around $300. However, it is not sure to get back our files even we pay how much they want.

It’s a huge network behind these ransomware attacks. To get complete information about this, go to the Wiki page.

Mostly, there are two common ways to enter this malware in our computer. They are:

1. Spam E-mail

Almost all of you get these spam e-mails, even I too. But I recommend you avoid doing click on these spam e-mails. A simple way to avoid getting these spam e-mails is just do unsubscribe them.

At the bottom of every e-mail, there is a source for why you get this e-mail? If you just unsubscribe that source, that’s all. The Unsubscribe button also exists at the bottom of every e-mail. So, you need not worry about how to remove spam e-mails.

2. Browsing

Online is also an effective way of ransomware virus to enter our PC. The solution is using antivirus software or activate the free ransomware protection of what I’m saying now.

How does it attack?

Usually, we are browsing every day. The type of browsing may be different, but the browsing is common. We need to enter different websites to get our required information.

At the time when we enter different websites, the various malware attacks are ready to attack our PC. If we click to download files or any adds or any images then the new unwanted tab will open. This is the basic unwanted action while browsing.

Through that unwanted tab, the hackers will get to know our IP address, and also virus will enter at this situation. The virus directly enters the windows drive (Local Disk C) in common.

After the virus gets into our PC, we are unable to get to know about that until we shut down our PC. Once we shut down, the virus present in the disk will activate and the hacker encrypted all our data through this virus.

After that, we would not able to access our files. Entire our computer files lost our control. The hacker placed a text file for us. In that text file, we have this message “We encrypted all your data. If you want to get back your data, you must download our software, and there we will provide our decryption code.”

The hacker provides two or three demo files decryption in order to prove that they are accessing our data.

We need to pay for the software that they recommend. In that situation, we have two options. Whether you to buy their software or give up. If we buy their software, we have no guarantee to get back our files even we paid. So, that’s the risky thing to take.

The second option is to give up. If we don’t have any important files or having a backup of important files, then it is better to reset our PC.

Also, we have another option, that is ‘Is there a chance to get back our files without using their software?’ I am interested to tell you this in one completely decent article.

So, for now, we look at the activation of ransomware protection.

Ransomware protection

In the title, I highlight the Windows 10 PC instead of all PCs. Why because windows 10 have the special and most useful feature to protect our PC against ransomware virus.

This ransomware attack is common to every PC with any OS having weak firewall protection. But in windows 10 OS we have a facility to protect our PC freely. So we use it.

The below steps and images will help you in the activation of ransomware protection.

Firstly, you must have windows 10 operating system in order to have this feature. If not sure, follow these steps.

Step 1 :- Go to ‘My PC or This PC’

There you can find all Local disk spaces.

This PC
Enter ‘This PC’

Step 2 :- There you can right-click on your mouse to get options and select and click on properties.

Right click and select the properties of my PC or This PC
Right click and select the properties of my PC or This PC

After that, the system will show your system properties. For example, the below screenshot shows my system properties.

Here you can see the system specs along with the Operating System what you are using
Here you can see the system specs along with the Operating System what you are using

There you can find the version of your windows operating system. My system running with windows 10 operating system. And it is the OS that we want now.

We clear about the OS, now we will see how to activate ransomware protection on your Windows 10 PC.

Activation process

Step 1 :- Tap Windows key, the windows tab will open on your screen.

Press Windows Key on keyboard and select settings
Press Windows Key on keyboard and select settings

Step 2 :- There you can find the settings option. Select and click on it. The setting window will open.

Get into the Update and Security section

Step 3 :- Here you can select and click on ‘Update & Security’. Windows update tab will open. But we want windows security, so click on windows security there.

There you can find the health status of your system

Make sure your PC is good at all the protection areas listed there.

Step 4 :- Click on Virus & threat protection to activate ransomware protection. The new pop up (Virus & threat protection) tab will open. It looks like this.

Just scroll down the new tab and there we found the ‘Ransomware protection‘ option.

In Windows security, you can find Virus and threat protection along with ransomware protection

Step 5 :- Below that ‘Manage ransomware protection‘ present, click on it. The ‘controlled folder access’ is present. See its description, “Protect files, folders, and memory areas on your device from unauthorized changes by unfriendly applications.” By activating this option means you are activating ransomware protection on your PC.

In the Ransomware protection, turn on the Controlled folder access
In the Ransomware protection, turn on the Controlled folder access

Look at the above screenshot, I was activated Ransomware protection on my PC.

This protection prevents unauthorized changes on your PC. Not only the ransomware virus this feature will help to protect from any kind of virus.

Efficient PC protection

Below the controlled folder access, we found three different options.

  1. Block history
  2. Protected folders
  3. Allow an app through Controlled folder access

We can make efficient PC protection by the above options. Let me explain to you in detail.

1. Block history

Here we find the history of blocked folders. Also, we can find its severity. Mostly, I do not use this option much until the windows security recommends me.

2. Protected folders

This is the main feature that I want most in the entire windows 10 OS. I like it because of its flexibility. We wish to add or remove folders from this protected folders zone.

Select the folders that are important to you
Select the folders that are important to you

For example, academic and GATE folders are important to me. I don’t want to lose the data in them and also don’t want unwanted changes to them.

So, I was added that folders here and keep them secure.

3. Allow an app through Controlled folder access

I think the sub-heading says most about it. If we want any app runs whenever we want and protect after our usage, this feature will help us.

By this, we use software applications efficiently without being affected by ransomware or any other virus.
