Hi there! I am happy to write this article because they successfully completed the Crew Dragon mission.
NASA prepared to get back the two astronauts who traveled on SpaceX Crew Dragon Demo 2. Along with Americans, the entire world is watching and wish them for safe land and make the mission successful.
As we know that, Bob and Doug were the space travelers on this Crew Dragon. Here you get the launch date and details of NASA, SpaceX Crew Dragon Demo 2.
They launched the Crew Dragon Demonstration 2 on 30th May 2020 at 3:22:45 pm EDT (19:22:45 UTC) with two astronauts, Robert Behnken (Bob) and Douglas Hurley.
Let us see the schedule of Bob and Doug returns from the time of undocking from the space station to the splashdown.
Math is perfect. All the above procedure was done perfectly, according to their math calculations.
SpaceX Crew Dragon undocking
Now, Bob and Doug were ready to come back home. The Crew Dragon was undocked from the ISS on August 1st, 2020 at 7:34 PM EDT. And they were planned to make this splash down at the coast of Florida.
If everything goes well, it took around 10 minutes to enter the space from the earth in a rocket. But, coming back from space to the earth is a sensitive matter than the launching.
This is the picture NASA captured that when the Crew Dragon capsule was ready to undock from the International Space Station.
This time, Elon Musk owned SpaceX created this Crew Dragon capsule which has the capability to get back the astronauts from space to earth. However, it took around 18 to 19 hours for astronauts to reach earth on this vehicle.
While coming to the landing locations, the Crew Dragon capsule was splash down on the coastal regions of America. There are various locations they can estimate cause that depends on the weather at the time of splashdown.
The Pensacola, Panama City, Tallahassee, Tampa, Cape, Daytona, and Jacksonville are the seven approximate landing locations for the SpaceX Crew Dragon Demo-2 capsule.
But, at last, the Pensacola is the splashdown location of the Crew Capsule.
The most important considering factor during the time of both launching and landing cases is ‘weather.’ Wind speed, clear sky, and other factors considered by the Space Agencies.
The Crew Dragon Demo-2 launching was postponed because of poor weather. But at last, everything goes well and they successfully completed the mission. It is also one of the primary reasons for China’s Long March 5B splashdown.
However, we need to know what are the real factors considered by space agencies? and why they did so? I want to explain this in a complete article.
Bob and Doug landing
The SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule splashdown happened on August 2nd Sunday at 2:42 PM (EDT) at the coast of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico. You can look at the splashdown of Crew Dragon on the above video.
After the splashdown, the NASA team has received the astronaut’s Bob and Doug. And they conducted the webcast at 5:15 PM on that day. The webcast is for Bob and Doug to share their space travel experience.
They spend 63 days on the space station and did the work for what they were appointed and came back home safely. They were being very thankful to NASA and SpaceX for selecting them as the Crew members, and for those who wish for their safe returns.
Bob says, “When the space shuttles retired when the Doug took his last flight to warp that up. I think it was a sad day for us. Because there is something special having that capability to launch and bring your own astronauts home and we went through a lot of years without that capability and I think we’re both super proud to have been just a small part of the team that accomplished bringing those space flights back to the Florida coast and bringing that capability back to America.”
Doug says, “I think the biggest thing we would both like to talk about is just to thank. You know this has been quite an odyssey the last five, six, seven, eight years. Five years since Bob and I started working on this program and to be where we are now the first crude flight of Dragon is just unbelievable. We said it before just tremendous privilege to be part of this program, to be part of NASA and to spent two months on the ISS with one of the greatest officers, crewmates, astronauts, Chris Cassidy just was a real pleasure for both of us.”
NASA’s Johnson space center director Mark Geyer says, “We are excited to see you safely splashdown earlier today, but we’re very happy to see you back on earth here in Houston. On behalf of all the employees of NASA and JSC, we congratulate you on completing your historic mission to the International Space Station. You know many of us are committed to the goals of the aspirations of human exploration. But, you and the other astronauts actually take the risks that make human exploration possible.”
What’s the special of NASA, SpaceX Crew Dragon Demo 2?
It has been nine years for NASA to send astronauts to space from its motherland America. So, it is an enormous achievement to them, and also SpaceX is the first private space agency that sends astronauts to space. Here, the best thing is the SpaceX uses reusable technology.
By this mission successful, they proved that space travel is possible with the reusable vehicles. Elon Musk was working hard to improve this kind of technology, so that human civilization is possible on other planets like Mars.
Falcon 9 is the first fully reusable vehicle from SpaceX. It costs more than the normal rocket because of the technology used inside it. But it can reusable so that space travel will happen at less cost.
SpaceX was recorded as the first space agency and also the first private space agency that used reusable launch vehicles to space travel. With this advanced technology, we can save a lot of money.
Elon Musk says “I do think what heralds really is fundamentally a new era in space flight, a new era in space exploration. We are going to go to the moon, we are going to have a base on the moon, we are going to have sent people to Mars and make life multi-planetary.”
